Before & After

Dr Suzanne Engelbrecht

This case was done by Dr Suzanne Engelbrecht. The patient could not afford 28 crowns (which would have been the ideal treatment), so we did a full mouth rehabilitation with tooth coloured filling material (composite). This is the result of bruxism (grinding the teeth) and drinking copious amounts of Coke (soft drink).
The patient is very happy with his new smile and bite without having to break the bank!

Dr Liana van Heerden

This case was done by Dr Liana van Heerden. The patient wanted a beautiful smile for her wedding, which was only 4 months away!
The patient ideally needs full orthodontic treatment (braces on all the teeth), but for now she only wanted her front teeth straightened.
The braces were placed on the 6 front teeth and just look at the results after only 4 months! She is happy with her new smile and ready for her wedding.

This patient was treated by Dr Suzanne Engelbrecht. Although she enjoys dentistry of all ages, children has always been one of her special passions.
The very first visit to the dentist is of UTMOST importance to shape the perception a child will have of the dentist. It can make or break the rest of their life’s dental experience. It is her aim to ensure the child has a positive and good experience.
Dr Suzanne treated this 3 year old patient, wide awake in the chair. He braved 2 injections and 4 fillings in 40 minutes.
This is an amazing achievement and we are very proud of this brave boy! He has the sweetest face! (Permission was granted by his parents to post his photo)

Dr Liana van Heerden

This case was done by Dr Liana van Heerden. She is passionate about orthodontic treatment. The patient has had 10 months of orthodontic treatment (braces). She recently moved to Cape Town and decided to remove the braces before the treatment was 100% complete, despite this, a beautiful and more functional result. She asked Dr van Heerden to place porcelain brackets as she is a model. On the photo (right) she has braces and you can barely see it! Permission was granted by the patient to post this photo.

It is that time of the week again, Transformation Tuesday and a “change of scenery”.
Let us set aside teeth for today and speak about WRINKLES. It is part of the ageing process and everyone will encounter them at some stage of life. Some people love the uniqueness and ability to express themselves and others prefer to “flatten the curves” 😉.
Fortunately we have the ability to postpone that ageing process by using a neurotoxin (a toxin that relaxes the muscles) called Botox.
Our patient is a lady with 3/4 permanent frown lines, even with her face at rest they are present. Dr Suzanne injected the patient with Botox and have a look at the results. Areas targeted in this case were the horizontal frown lines and the angry frown (area between the eyes/eyebrows).
The duration of the effects lasts about 3-6 months (it is dependant on the amount the facial muscles are used).

Transformation Tuesday’s case of the day was done by Dr Liana van Heerden. Unfortunately this patient had cancer and was treated by chemotherapy and radiation. As a result her dentition deteriorated. She presented with decayed teeth and root rests.
Dr Liana replaced the amalgam (silver) fillings with composite (tooth coloured) fillings, extracted teeth and placed implants and crowns.
This case was completed in 5 months.
The patient does not have pain anymore and she can chew properly.
